OVERLAND TRACK

The Overland serves as a reminder of what it means to be truely content. Where winds speed up and your inner world slows. Where you’re left with your thoughts but have the time and space to truely process them. Where your outlook on life becomes as simple as the mountains that surround you….

People have been living in Lutruwita (Tasmania) for at least 35,000 years. Aboriginal roots stem back to an era where glaciers carved out these mountains and valleys. They endured and thrived in the harshest of conditions and as the ice melted and button grass took its place, the passage between Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair became a highly trafficked route of trade, hunting and gathering. Many unforgivable horrors have occurred between now and then but one thing we can complement Tasmania on, is its preservation of national parks, simply by making them inaccessible.

One must do the mahi to reap the rewards and the Overland is the epitome of that. 95km doable in 3-4 days including side trips. Huts are dotted along the way but pack a tent if you’re after solitude. Best completed late winter/early spring for dramatic snow storms and maximum stokedness.
