FREYCINET COASTAL TRACK

Freycinet… The one and only place where a hooded towel is appropriate tramping attire.

My first glimpse into the beauty of life in Tasmania and the importance of an ocean swim. Waves that start out daunting but mellow out the further you trudge down the shore… soft sand will never not be brutal. But of course, the further one persists, the quieter the crowds and the grander the views. Happily I will trudge.

Never have I encountered so many little bays ideal for skinny dipping (especially mid-winter) in between a leisurely sip of some maple tea (draining Sam’s only water source in the process). Never was a selfless act regretted so strongly. And I guess the peanut butter lunch didn’t help. In summary: 30km circuit doable in a day but the campsite at the south end of Wineglass Bay is nothing short of exceptional for those that want to stretch it over two. Minimum of eight swims recommended.
